Life at First Baptist
As I reflect on this past week of Vacation Bible School it dawned on me that as it comes to a close it feels a bit like the curtains being drawn on Summer. In just a couple of short weeks we will all find ourselves falling back into the regular rhythms of life. School, sports, extra-curriculars, work, neglected to-do lists around the house, regular bed times, and reminiscing about the great things we did over the Summer while planning for the next. Isn't that what it is all about, though? Summer brings a lot of highs (and not just in temperature) and it can trick us into thinking that we need to chase it. The reality, however, is so much of the Christian life is lived in the ordinary. I want to encourage you, as you prepare for this next season of doing the ordinary, do it well! In a world that chases the extraordinary we are set apart by going hard after the ordinary. I know the context of Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 10:31 are dealing with an issue regarding idolatry and food offered to idols but the principle in his words apply. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” The reality is we will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with many who do not know the Lord and when the world's motivations fail them we have ample opportunity to share Jesus who never fails us. Side related: If you are available tomorrow after lunch there is a group gathering at the church to breakdown the VBS decorations and clean up! Contact Autumn for more details! As we round out July and step into August ministry activities will be picking up! Be sure to make note of additions all the ways you can involve yourselves in the "Life at First Baptist"! Children & Youth Ministry Input NeededPlease take time to read the information below and fill out the survey! As many of you are aware the Sands' started hosting Youth Bible Study at their home on Sunday evenings. That has gone remarkably well seeing an average of 10-12 students gather each week! However, not all of those students are technically of Youth Group Age. As it continues to grow alongside the rest of our Children's Minsitry (seeing 40+ kids each Sunday morning) and with the success of our ministry efforts to children (exemplifed by another wonderful VBS) there has been discussion around expanding what we have been doing on Sunday evenings. As it continues to grow we will outgrow the living room and it would be helpful to offer more age appropriate ministry to each group. There have been several mentions of starting an "Awana-like" ministry at the church. This would be a ministry that invites all age groups to a weekly gathering of fun, food, and fellowship around the word together. We thought it would be wise to poll the church to see if this is something worth exploring. In order to pull off a ministry like this it would require both "buy in" (for lack of a better word) from parents who would see this as a priority for their child(ren) and from volunteer standpoint. We also understand that lives are busy and you'll find optional days/times for this potential ministry. For more infomation visit:
