Chris & Rebecca w/ Navigators

Chris & Rebecca Munsterman will be joining us this Sunday, September 28th to share about God's call on their lives in Slovakia. A couple of weeks ago we voted as a church to donate $5,000 to the Munsterman's to help off set their moving expense. They will be here to share a heartfelt thank you, more detail on the ministry they will be pioneering with the Navigators, and Chris will be preaching in our worship service. At the conclusion of the service we will pray over them and send them out in the Lord's call and care!

Fields of Faith with FCA

The West Platte FCA Club is hosting a regional Fields of Faith event this year! Mark your calendars and plan on joining us. This event is for the entire community!! FBC Weston's Worship Team is leading music, Jake Maechler is sharing God's word, and we are providing the meal of the evening. If you would like to volunteer to help please contact Bailee Giger and she will get you plugged in somewhere!

Janie West is accepting any help in concessions for anyone interested!

Applefest Parade

We are excited to be entering a float into the Applefest Parade this year! Here are the details if you would like to join us! We are going to sport any one of our favorite FBC Weston t-shirts from the last few years, walkers will hand out flyers to our upcoming Carnival & Outdoor Movie Night, and the Appefest committee has asked us to go HEAVY on the apple theme so we are asking all who plan to attend to purchase a bag or two of any kind of apple candy (caramel apple suckers, plain apple suckers, apple hard candies, etc.) to throw out to parade attendees! If you cannot join us for the parade but would like to donate candy to throw out you can certainly do so by purchasing and bringing to the church on any Sunday morning before Applefest weekend!

Applefest Sunday 2025

REMINDER: The weekend of Applefest we will not have Sunday School and will have our regular worship service at 9:00 a.m. to allow for everyone to beat the traffic home!

Women's Night Out

All women of FBC Weston are invited to a night out for Baan Thai in Leavenworth, KS on October 9th. Contact Katie Heidtbrink with any questions.

Many are familiar with Agros because of a former intern, Isaac Whitman. Agros continues the work of finding and developing pastors and church leaders for the work of ministry in small towns and rural places! In fact, Pastor Steve Wahlenmaier is currently an Agros Fellow with the ministry. Their upcoming Agros Conference FREE for all interested in attending. Here are the details: Saturday, October 11th from 8:00-4:30 at Riverbend Bible Church in Atchison, KS. We will have biblical teaching, singing, prayer, a free meal, and a free book (for the first 50 registrants). If you belong to one of the churches in our region and want to see them mature and multiply through greater devotion to God's Word, prayer, fellowship, and the ordinances, then join us! The theme this year is "Prophet, Priest, King" and will focus on equipping churches and leaders to see Jesus as just that! If you would like more information please feel free to ask Steve. Register here!

Historical Facts at First Baptist

Pastor's Pen

Brothers & Sisters,

Contrasting last week, this is a little long but I hope you will take time to read my musings this morning. I mentioned in the sermon that we don't have to look around too far to find evidence for the existence of evil in this present age. I had an hour to think a little deeper on some of this while making a drive to Overland Park. Piggy backing off of yesterday's sermon on the wheat and the weeds I wanted to share an additional thought. When chaos ensues there are always those who capitalize on it! Two things I have been made aware of in light of recent events.

First, conspiracy theories. I'll be the first to admit that I sure used to love a good conspiracy theory. I used to think it was fun to theorize about things that were unclear but I am noticing an alarming trend. Conspiracy theories are growing darker and I fear that they are actually becoming a religion of their own. "Nothing is what is portrayed to be" has become the mantra and this kind of thinking has seeped into the church. Regarding conspiracy theories I would submit to you a helpful reminder from Paul, "Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” (1 Timothy‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Secondly, the rapture fervor. Amidst the chaos there has been an increase of rapture predictions. In fact, I am told that the rapture will happen Tuesday or Wednesday. Regardless of one's position on the rapture, Jesus shares a helpful word. “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” (Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭36‬ ‭ESV‬‬) On top of that Luke told us that Jesus said it isn't for us to know. “He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.” (Acts‬ ‭1‬:‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬) My encouragement is to focus on what is true and made known to us by clear revelation of God's word so that you may not be "tossed to and fro by the waves and carried away by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes." (Ephesians 4:14 ESV)

I want to share two observations that I have made in response to this. First, (this one is going to hurt a little) there is a growing practical outworking of a dissatisfaction with the Gospel. Now, I am not saying that this means one is unsaved. I am saying, however, that when we allow fear to send us chasing rabbits down information the very Son of Man tells us we aren't supposed to have we should be questioning whether the Gospel's sufficiency is enough. What we believeinfluences how we behave!

Secondly, the internet has gained more influence than those God ordained to care for our souls. (Side quest: Social media influencers have no authority over the local church, another Pastor at another church has no authority over another local church and I just want to say, as someone who did mention Charlie Kirk the Sunday following his assassination, this rhetoric of encouraging members to leave churches that chose not to address it is unnecessarily divisive, in no way the indicator of an unhealthy church, and reveals the poor state of ecclesiology in our country. Maybe I'll share more on this in another post.) If the internet is increasing your fear of the unknown can I encourage you to take a break? We don't need to know everything and we aren't built for it. "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.” (‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭29‬:‭29‬ ‭ESV‬‬) So,, "aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one." (1 Thessalonians‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭ESV‬‬)  “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Remember, no matter what may come in this present age, "Christ keeps the children of His Kingdom to the end."
